Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

On completion of the course, students will be able to read and understand upper-intermediate Business English texts; understand and apply business English vocabulary and terminology from the fields of management, company finance, financial markets, international trade, CSR, taxation, economic policy; participate in discussions on those fields, and produce communicatively effective written business texts (graph descriptions; business reports and proposals).

This course uses the following methods: self-study of the contents from the books, online discussions in forums, listening comprehensions, vocabulary development and reinforcement of grammatical structures, and case studies.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Business English II is assessed by means of:• Midterm Test (25%) online (Moodle)• Final Test (65%) in person• regular online quizzes (10%) online (Moodle)In order to pass the course, participants must reach an overall percentage score (PS) of more than 60% and meet the attendance/participation requirements.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The students will be awarded a grade on the basis of their overall percentage score (PS) as follows:PS 60.5-70; Grade 4PS 70.5-80; Grade 3PS 80.5-90; Grade 2PS 90.5-100; Grade 1In order to pass the course, participants must reach an overall percentage score (PS) of more than 60% and meet the attendance/participation requirements.According to university regulation, this course is "prüfungsimmanent", which means that in principle students must attend every class (for information on how this applies when the course is taught in a digital format, please see below). Exceptionally, they may miss a maximum of two sessions.Failure to attend the first session without prior notification will result in losing the place in the course (this means that if you do not submit the assignment for the first lesson by the deadline, you will be deregistered from the course).This course will be taught in a digital format through Moodle. This means your physical presence is not required (except for the final exam), but you are expected to actively participate online by completing weekly sessions through Moodle. Completing these weekly sessions is mandatory and if you fail to actively participate in all of the tasks set (post to forums, complete quizzes...) for more than two sessions, this will result in a fail.Sessions will be posted weekly on Moodle (you will receive a notification through Moodle whenever a new session goes online.) These tasks will only be available for a limited time period (usually one week). Please note that late submissions will not be accepted. Failure to actively participate in the course online (that means if you make no submissions for all mandatory tasks for more than two sessions) will result in a fail.All communication will be done through Moodle, so it is your responsibility to check your messages regularly.
