Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In addition to individual discussions with other students, this course is designed to help you to present and discuss your master's thesis.

To attend the course, you must fulfill the following requirements:
1. You will only be admitted to the class if you have registered a master thesis. As proof, you must send a copy of the supervisor's signed registration form to veronika.moser[at]univie.ac.at.

You need to be aware that YOUR SUPERVISOR MUST BE PRESENT during class when you have your presentation. It is your responsibility to INFORM YOUR SUPERVISOR IN TIME concerning the dates of your class presentations. If you not pay attention to this requirement, your performance cannot be evaluated; thus, no grade can be given.
2. In addtion, the copy of the supervisor's signed registration form you need to send Ms. Veronika Moser (veronika.moser[at]univie.ac.at) by 2.10.2023, 23h, at the latest:
- Surname
- First name
- Student number
- University email
- Tile of the work (working title)
- Date of approval of the work
- Supervisor

This data will be collected and put into an Excel spreadsheet in Moodle. Your privacy approval is assumed (otherwise, please get in touch with Ms. Moser).
3. For all submissions, please always consider writing the course name and your contact details (name, email) on the relevant document.
4. The first class unit will have a detailed outline of the class procedure. Not being present during the first class unit will lead to deregistration of the course.
5. You must upload your disposition in Word format on Moodle to the appropriate folders by 14.10.2023.

The disposition includes:
a) At least five pages of text
b) Table of contents (preliminary structure of the paper)
c) Problem statement and motivation (based on relevant, relevant academic literature)
d) Research question
e) Methodological approach (focus, design, sample, tests, ....)
f) Bibliography of at least ¾ page.
If your work is already advanced, please upload your work in progress so far.

6. I will happily answer any questions you may have during my office hours. Please call me at +43-664-60277-38125 on Fridays 10.00 - 12.00 (during the official term).

7. Dates
a) See "Important dates of the course schedule" on Moodle.
b) Preparation for the 1st presentation: upload PowerPoint slides 1 week before the presentation; presentation dates and discussants will be assigned.
c) Procedure for 1st presentation: the content is your progress. You have to present more than your disposition. If you started from scratch, you should have reached already 1/2 of the work (remember, the master thesis should be written in 6 months). The progress will be included in the grade.
d) Preparation for the 2nd presentation: PowerPoint slides as well as the actual thesis, which amounts at least 20 - 30 pages. You need to upload your work one week before the presentation; dates and discussants will be assigned.
e) Procedure of the 2nd presentation: The work needs to be presented; the progress (concerning the 1st presentation) is included in the grade. At least one discussant will discuss the progress of your work based on the submitted work in the Word document.
8. Absences: The presence is required in the first unit. Otherwise, you will be deregistered from the course. For the other dates, you may be absent for a maximum of 2 hours after consultation with the course instructor. Otherwise a negative evaluation is the consequence.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Grading
a) Submission of the disposition and its quality: 10%.
b) Seminar 1 (presentation and discussion feedback): 30%
c) Seminar 2 (presentation and discussion feedback): 60%
d) Each late submission or unexcused absence = 1 grade worse

The use of AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) for the production of texts is only permitted if they are expressly requested by the course leader (e.g. for individual work tasks).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Grading scheme: up to 49.0% Unsatisfactory, 49.5%-62.5% Satisfactory, 63.0%-75.0% Satisfactory, 75.5%-87.5% Good, 88.0%-100% Very Good
