Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The aim of the seminar is to introduce students to writing research texts in preparation for their diploma thesis. The topical focus of the seminar is “Negotiation & Conflict Resolution”. A list of topics will be provided. Students can choose their own topic; however, it has to be approved.

In the first session, students will receive an overview on writing a scientific article (literature research, finding a research question, etc.). While writing the seminar paper and preparing the presentation, students are encouraged to schedule individual meetings to discuss their progress.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Participants will be assessed based on the bachelor thesis/seminar paper (50%), its presentation (40%), and in-class participation (10%).

The bachelor thesis has to meet scientific standards and is preparing students for writing a diploma thesis. In their bachelor thesis, the participants should demonstrate a profound knowledge of the addressed topic. Based on a thorough literature review, students not only summarize their findings, but also develop an own perspective on a particular topic.

The bachelor thesis has to be presented in class. The presentation has to cover (a) a description of the problem and the specific research question, (b) a summary & the highlights of the review of relevant literature, and (c) a discussion of findings & possible future research questions.

The course is designed to be interactive. Therefore, class attendance is required.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The final grade consists of the following three components:

• 50 % submitted seminar paper
• 40 % in class presentation
• 10 % in class participation

Successful completion of the course requires 50%:

• Grade 4: > 50%
• Grade 3: > 63%
• Grade 2: > 75%
• Grade 1: > 87,5%

Prüfungsstoff

A list of topics related to negotiations will be provided. Students can choose their own topic; however, it has to be approved.

Literatur

If a suggested topic is chosen, a starting article for the bachelor thesis will be sent to the participant at the beginning of the class.
