Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

UPDATE MARCH 2020: Due to the cancellation of in-class sessions until 3 April 2020, all affected lectures have been recorded and can be accessed as streams via the Moodle group of the course. As scheduled, student presentations will be held via video web conferences. Students can also ask questions by email or video chat. (This information will be updated as soon as further changes to the course structure are required during the semester.)

In this Proseminar, students will write and present an essay in the field of labor economics. This area of research involves many interesting topics such as unemployment, discrimination and earnings inequality.

At the beginning of the Proseminar will be an introduction to the core elements of writing a scientific essay. Student will learn how to state a research question, review related studies and structure the essay.

Following the introduction, essay concepts will be presented in class, which allows to receive feedback from peers to further improve the essay.

At the end of the Proseminar, students will have acquired important writing and presentation skills, which are useful for future assignments such as the Bachelor thesis.

Note that it is not possible to write the Bachelor thesis as part of this Proseminar. The course is solely meant as preparation.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment is based on the presentations, peer feedback and the written essay.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Prüfungsstoff

Students will choose a research question on their own.
