• Writing of course paper(s) of the assignment(s) and presenting it.
• Delivery of the presentation and course paper(s) in time in an electronic version as well as in a hard copy version.
• The course paper(s) and presentation(s) have to meet the requirements of the department and common scientific guidelines (i.e. list all sources and provide adequate references, supplement text with tables and figures, avoid plagiarism, …)
• Write and present in English.
• Achieve a score of at least 50 points

The course focuses on the techniques of system dynamics and discrete event simulations. Several practical examples elaborated by the students will build up the knowledge of system dynamics.
To demonstrate the wide application area of discrete event simulations, we will elaborate an example in emergency medical management in the field of mass casualty incidents. Therefore, we use a discrete event simulation policy model which is applied by the Austrian Samaritan Organization in a workshop setting. The students will learn essential lessons on emergency disaster management, scheduling emergency patients, and training emergency staff at ambulatory services with management games.
