Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The development of Information Technology is one of the most important factors influencing both the structure and the strategy of firms today. In this course, we first look at different concepts of strategy and models that try to explain sustainable competitive advantages and then analyze how Information Technology might help to achieve competitive advantages. The course is based on papers from the academic literature, which deal with these questions both form a theoretical and an empirical point of view.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students have to prepare two brief summary reports on papers to be studied for two course modules. There will also be one short quiz, at a random date, on the papers to be studied for the module scheduled for the date of the quiz, and a final exam. Course points are allocated as follows:
Summary reports: 20% + 20%
Quiz: 15%
Final exam: 45 %

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students should develop a thorough understanding about how IT shapes the strategy and structure of today's firms as well as the scientific methods used to study these relationships

Prüfungsstoff

The course is based on literature. Students are expected to read the relevant literature before a topic is discussed in class. Classroom sessions will be mainly devoted to the discussion specific questions that will be provided together with the literature for each classroom module.
