Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The automation of business processes, also known as workflows, is enabled by workflow management systems (WfMS) or process-aware information systems (PAIS). They have become the thriving source of change in the course of workflow-enabled digitalization.

Goals of this course:
* Introduction and familiarization of concepts of workflow systems and technologies
* Application and development of workflow systems

The content of the course consists of:
* Basic concepts of WfMS and PAIS
* Process orchestrations
* Properties of business processes
* Development of workflow-driven applications
* Workflow execution and web services

Students, attending the course, are expected to have knowledge in the following topics:
* Business process modeling foundations
* Advanced knowledge in the business process modeling notation (BPMN)
* Basic knowledge of common data formats (e.g. XML, JSON, YAML, HTML)
* Basic knowledge of service oriented architecture (SOA) and REST
* Proficiency in at least one programming language of your choice
* Basic understanding of shell scripting

* 3-4 theoretical and practical exercises during the semester
* on-site written exam

Exercises: 50%
Written exam: 50 %

Overall at least 51% of the points are required to pass the course.
