Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this course, students will learn how to design and implement Domain-Specific Modeling Methods for conceptual modeling. Acting as modeling method engineers, students employ metamodeling concepts for this purpose. As an analogy to the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF), the Generic Modeling Method Framework (GMMF) is introduced. To effectively utilize the GMMF, a solid understanding of what constitutes a modeling method is necessary.
The following four meta-concepts are discussed in detail due to their importance for the design and development process of a Domain-Specific Modeling Language (DSML):
- Instantiation
- Visualization
- Customization
- Utilization

These foundations are applied in the form of an exercise, which comprises the development of a DSML with the help of a suitable metamodeling platform.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students must score at least 50 out of 100 points for a successful grade in Metamodeling. Points are awarded as follows:
* 25 Points for the written exam on theoretical foundations of metamodeling
* 25 Points for the written exam on advanced aspects of metamodeling
* 35 Points for the group project on modeling method implementation
* 15 Points for the concept of the modeling method implementation project

The lecture is held in a mixed mode, combining theoretical lectures on several aspects of metamodeling with practical applications of the theory by means of realizing a DSML with a metamodeling platform.

Besides the group implementation project, the students perform all texts and exams individually. In the group implementation project, students will be graded individually. During the written exams, no aids are allowed.

The presentations have to be given orally within the course at fixed dates.
Attendance is mandatory.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In total, the sum of the scores must exceed 50% of the maximum achievable score. The distribution key is as follows:
* very good (1) >= 87.00%
* good (2) >= 75,00%
* satisfactory (3) >= 63,00%
* sufficient (4) >= 50.00%
* not sufficient (5) < 50,00 %

Attendance is compulsory in the course. In order to receive a positive grade, students may be absent for a maximum of 2 units.
