Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In the core combinations module "Semantic Technologies", the goal is to research and facilitate innovation in the digital transformation age. A model-based approach is employed to conceptualize, implement, and deploy semantic information systems. Thereby, individuals or teams design and develop semantic information systems in an experiment-based approach, while exploring the potential of "smart" models.

In the winter semester a project must be conducted, in which a semantic information system will be designed, developed, deployed, and evaluated in an experiment setting. The winter semester will be built upon the results of the summer semester.

In the summer semester the foundation for the prototype of the winter semester is provided. Semantic technologies and technical background will be introduced in a lecture. The theoretical foundations will be deepened through practical exercises. To specify the goal of the project and set the context, a use case scenario must be researched and specified.

Correspondingly in the module, students acquire skills to:
* Design semantic technology applications
* Conceptualize and implement scenarios that benefit from semantic technologies in the digital transformation age
* Develop and implement semantic based prototypes

As the winter semester will be based on content form the Metamodelling course, it is recommended to take the Metamodelling course in parallel to the summer semester part of the semantic technology course.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

- A written test has to be passed, which will contain theoretical questions and applied problems. Depending on the development of the pandemic regulations, the test will be held digital or physical.

- A seminar paper regarding the use case scenario and design for the semantic information system, including the foundations, must be written and presented.

- To deepen the provided theoretical background, exercises must be completed by the students.

Based on the developments with covid-19, changes during the semester can occur.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In detail, the grade is constituted by:

* Seminar paper (30%)
* Exercises (40%)
* Test (30%)

For a positive evaluation of the course, more or equal to 50% of requirements have to be fulfilled. This applies to each of the three before mentioned parts and therefore each of the parts must be positive (>=50% of the respective points).

The grading scale is defined as follows: >=50% - 62,5%: sufficient (Genügend); >62,5% - 75%: satisfactory (Befriedigend); >75% - 87,5%: good (Gut); >87,5%: excellent (Sehr Gut)

There will be compulsory attendance.
