- Get an overview of the excavation methods used in the past and present by going through old and new publications & resources;
- Get an overview of the Theban Necropolis, its use and its purpose by summarising its history;
- Understand the different functions of a tomb by looking at the topographical position, geographical location and purpose;
- Get an overview of the different agents involved in the private tombs by looking at the role of the tomb owner, the artists and the viewers;
- Understand the stylistic developments throughout the 18th dynasty.Method:The aims of this class will be reached through the teaching material and through reading the required literature. In class, a powerpoint will be used. Questions and discussion are encouraged. The powerpoint-presentations will be put on Moodle after class. The lectures will not be recorded or live-streamed.Students may only use the content provided in Moodle for private learning purposes and not for professional or commercial purposes (e.g. downloading, saving and printing). Passing on content to third parties is generally prohibited, also the passing on via upload to other platforms, via social media or cloud services or similar is not permitted from a copyright point of view.
