Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The Master's Thesis Seminar will be held in English. The class is meant to accompany and support the successful production of your master thesis and the thesis of your colleagues.

We will work on the key elements for a good master thesis:
* find your topic and your research question
* find your empirical sources and your methodological approach
* write an introduction and a literature review and place your thesis in the field and its current debates
* put your empirical analysis in writing
* present the key argument(s) and draw conclusions
* write an abstract

Your draft proposals and chapter drafts will be at the heart of this work, accompanied by some anonymous best practice examples. You will constantly hand in text elements and draft chapters of your thesis as work in progress and read and comment texts of your classmates. Additional reading on academic writing will help the discussion.

We will conclude the seminar with a small internal conference where you all
(a) give a short presentation of the results of your master thesis,
(b) comment on a selected draft chapter of your colleague, and
(c) chair a session's discussion.
