Focus on comprehension in scientific communication on global history.
Difference of information and communication:
What are global history topics/ concerns/ fields of expertise/ currents?
EG: Leading global political terms: Colonialism, Third World, development, mirgration, etc.; global terms in economy: progress, recession, commodities etc.; global history in technology: railways, freezer, telephone, internet, etc.; what is a global urban space? What is global climate (change)?

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Global historians need specialists, but specialists have yet to be convinced that they need global historians. How might global history promote its perceived relationship with specialists from the parasitic to the symbiotic? How might it enhance, encourage, and perhaps help focus specialist research?
Can global historians achieve some consensus on the meaning of core concepts, and so shift debate to deeper levels of analysis?
How does one tackle the practical difficulties of working across time, cultures, and space? Do these push us towards multi-skilled teams of scholars rather than individuals?

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Permanent control of participation, short presentations and discussions, reviews of selected texts;
The final paper is a personally developed guideline for finding relevant journal atricles on topics combinable to or sustaining global history analysis.

Evaluation of scientifically asserted data and figures
Understanding interpretation and referencing in scientific communication

Prüfungsstoff

Detailed analysis of commonly identified topics in journal articles relating them to global history
