070078 PS BA-Proseminar - Historical migrations and population geography of South-Eastern Europe (2022W)

The proseminar examines the primary migratory waves in the past that contributed to the formation of modern population structure in South-Eastern Europe. Students will be introduced to dominant theoretical models in population geography in relation to composition, spatial distribution, and variations of population across time and space. Practical exercises in data extraction from primary sources from different periods will lead students to develop individual case studies relying on quantitative and qualitative analysis methods used in Digital Humanities. The end goal of the seminar is to establish the pivotal importance of contemporary population geography when studying a large variety of social and economic processes in the past.
