Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The Austrian National Library - heir to the Habsburg Court Library - is not only one of the key institutions when it comes to the cultural heritage of Central Europe. During the past decade it has also become a hub of innovation with regard to Digital Humanities projects of differnt kinds: from image pattern recognition to digital scholarly editing, from scan processing to manuscript studies, from image databases to community involvment strategies. - The course will be held by one of the ÖNB's digital librarians together with a long-term user of (and contributor to) the rich funds of the ÖNB; students will be encouraged to define and realize their own digital project based on ÖNB resources.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will have to submit a series of assignments (3-4; 50%), part of which will be collective, and part of which will be individual and leading to the final project (50%). The projects will be individually negotiated according to the students' interests, and should ideally contain at least one digital component (data or code).
