Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course will introduce students to the transnational history of the Age of Revolutions by focusing on transitional actors such as exiles, soldiers, deportees, economic migrants, explorers, tourists, and religious missionaries. We will discuss book chapters, research articles, and primary sources, taking a broad range of aspects into account: turmoil and revolutions, economic and demographic development, political mobilization, criminal history and forced labor.

Students will be assessed based on short written assignments, a presentation, and their contribution to discussions.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students will be assessed based on short written assignments, a presentation, and their contribution to discussions.Short summaries of the literature with main questions or theses for at least 7 sessions (65% of the final grade).
One oral presentation, together with a fellow student (20% of the final grade).
Active participation in discussions (15% of the final grade).
Regular attendance (students may miss up to two classes).

100% - 87%: 1
86.99% - 75%: 2
74.99% - 63%: 3
62.99% - 50%: 4
