Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

a. LANGUAGE
English (discussion also possible in German)

b. AIMS
The course offers ways to understand the kind of changes feminist art brought to visual theory and art practice. Through exploring the weekly topics students will acquire the ability to situate products of visual culture within the wider context of their creation and in related critical debates. Students will also gain initial skills in comprehending and doing artistic and curatorial research as well as presenting cognitive knowledge in visual terms.

c. CONTENTS
The first sessions of the course overview key developments in art history writing and art theory that have impacted the assessment of women’s creative practices internationally and in the Central and South-Eastern European region. In the rest of the semester, we will focus on artistic positions and strategies, specific subject matters, concrete art works and exhibition projects emerging from the region. Presentations by international guests (curators and artists) will round up the learning experience.

d. METHODS
A combination of short lectures, class discussion of required readings, and brief presentations by students. At sessions with (virtual) seminar guests, students will co-moderate the discussion with the guest.

Prüfungsstoff

i. EXAMINATION TOPICS / CONTENT TO BE LEARNED IN THE COURSE
At selected sessions, students will give one or two short (5-10 min.) presentations; at sessions with (virtual) seminar guests, students will co-moderate the discussion with the guest.
As an additional course requirement, students will "curate" (i.e., draft a plan) for a virtual exhibition on a topic or of an artist of their choice.
