Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The research seminar deals with the value and the importance, but also the problems of islands in the process of globalization. In the past fifty years and reinforced in recent times islands have repeatedly been the subject of political conflicts (e.g. South China Sea, Caribbean). Also the climate change provokes a lot of new problems, especially for islands, which are only some meters over the sea level. The seminar will have a close look at these cases from a historical point of view.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Students have to write a research paper, give an oral presentation, and have to participate in the debates and the review processes.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Students are expected to attend all classes and meetings, to write a scientific paper (with critical footnotes, 70.000 characters + abstract), and to present the result of their research.
Prüfungsstoff
Guided research, discussion, scientific criticism, writing and presenting the research paper.
