Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course is a complement to the VO Master Lecture in Digital Humanities. We will read and discuss works that allow us to gain a more in-depth understanding of the intellectual background and theoretical underpinnings of DH methodology.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Course evaluation will be based on active preparation and participation in the weekly discussions (30%), as well as four written essays of 18-2500 words (20% each). Essays may be written either in English or in German. Late submission is possible for up to one week, but will result in a reduced score depending on the scale of delay.Attendance is mandatory. If absences cannot be avoided, they should be agreed with the lecturer in advance, and an extra written assignment will be given to make up the work.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
To pass the class, all assignments must have been submitted and an overall score of 51% must be achieved. Written work will be judged on the following:
- conformity to formal requirements (length, proper citation, &c.)
- relevance to question asked
- extent to which assigned reading was used
- strength of argument

Weekly readings will be put on the course Moodle at least two weeks in advance. You should come prepared each week with a written reaction (approximately a paragraph) to the reading, including at least one or two points where you either disagree with the author(s) or want more clarification.
