Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In the first four blocked meetings, key texts on culture of remembrance, history and remembrance in museums as well as museums and identity and critical visitor research will be discussed.
Reading of the texts and discussions will prepare for guided visits to four museums in Vienna (World Museum, House of Austrian History, Jewish Museum and Vienna Museum MUSA) with a focus on the representation of central themes of Austrian memory culture and identity constructions as well as colonialism in the exhibitions of these museums.
As integral part of the guided tours, there will also be opportunities for background discussions with the museum management, individual curators and active tour guides.
The results of the initial blocks and visits are summarized in a podcast or in the form of a short seminar paper (15 pages).
