Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

DIGITAL FORMATS in GLOBAL HISTORY WRITING

This course is built around the idea that the best way to learn writing history is to have students be historians. As explained by T. Mills Kelley, in the indicated pages of the book chapter mentioned below (cf. literature), students will use Wikipedia by re-editing entries on global food history. Starting with the history of global food crops or industrially processed food products, that part of existing Wikipedia entries that deals with the history of the respective foods will be revised, expanded and supplemented with relevant historical sources.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Continuous research- and writing will be documented by the students with their uploads on Moodle and reviewed by the professor. Regular attendance in-class sessions are mandatory. For selected students, who can prove that they are unable to stay in Austria during the semester due to entry restrictions, this course can also be attended online. Details will be mentioned ASAP.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

At least three revised versions, one work-in-progress presentation, and ten historical sources relevant to the topic must be submitted. Any additional work and performance will improve the grading prospect. That includes activity on the Moodle platform, for example on Forum, and other for every student visible online-tools of interaction.

Prüfungsstoff

Since this is an exam-immanent (seminar-like) course, there is no final exam. The grade is determined by permanent oral participation and written performance uploaded on Moodle.
