070370 GR Introduction to Global History (online-learning) (fspr.) (2007W)

The course is an addition to the lecture "Introduction to Global History" and its content is arranged according to the examples of the lecture. The course is designed as a Guided Reading course and provides the opportunity to further discuss the topics presented in the lecture by reading specifically selected texts for each session. The discussion of the texts however does not take place in the classroom but - as the course is a blended learning course - in the virtual space of the web. After two physical meetings in the classroom at the beginning of the term (on Oct. 10th and Oct. 17th) we go into the online phase of the course which ends on Jan. 23rd and is followed by a final physical meeting in the classroom on Jan. 30th 2008.
During the online phase our communication is going to take place in the web. There is a specific web space created for the course where the discussions take place, where you can post your comments and papers.
The course aims at teaching the students how to work with academic literature in various ways: we are going to have discussions of the texts, learn how to write abstracts and book reviews and work on the moderation skills of the participants. During the whole course there is going to be technical support from our tutor Manuela Gruber.
The course asks for regular access to the internet and the willingness to continuously read and discuss texts.
