Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course, dealing with war-like conditions on the island of Ireland from ancient times until the 1990s, will be held in the English language. Oral and written contributions must be in English. The willingness to read texts in English is a pre-condition for entrance to the course. Following 3-4 introductory talks by the lecturer the students will give oral presentations.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Final marks will be awarded on the basis of attendance, the willingness to join in discussions, the quality of the oral presentation and the written work according to the key: 10/10/30/50%.
If a student cannot attend, he/she should inform the lecturer as far in advance as possible and by means of e-mail. The written paper must be at least 10 pages long (excluding title page and bibliography), be paginated and written at one and half spacing and with footnotes on each page. Preferably, written papers should be sent as an e-mail attachment to the lecturer by foreign students ONLY; Austrian students should hand in their final written paper at the desk of the Institut für Geschichte.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Students will be expected to research their topic, practise presentation techniques and to complete their written assignment. It is strongly recommended that students consult their lecturer about the progress of their written paper during consultation hours (Sprechststunde).
Prüfungsstoff
The lecturer will use images and film in the introductory sessions. Students are expected to speak slowly and distinctly and regard the course also as an opportunity to debate topics under examination
