090035 KU Principle and Practice of Archaeological and Architectural Documentation (2017S)

Despite the tremendous technological advancements in recent times, the need to produce accurate and high quality graphical documentation by hand remains a crucial component in current archaeological practice. This course/workshop aims to introduce students to the principles, issues, methodologies, and execution of graphical documentation of archaeological and architectural remains that are relevant in the current practice of archaeological fieldwork. In addition, and more importantly, students will learn to analyze and critique archaeological illustration. Issues of computer and photographic applications will also be discussed. Due to the nature of the subject, the class will meet in the format of a double session after the first introductory class is completed. Students are expected to provide their own tools and equipment for the duration of the class. A register will be taken at each session. The final grade will be based on class attendance and participation as well as the products of various in-class projects.
