Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

A close reading of Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy (De Consolatione Philosophiae) in Latin with special attention to research methodologies, formulating of questions, and resources in Classical Philology.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students will learn how to do a close reading, how to read commentaries, and how to approach a variety of scholarly problems, including dating, source-criticism, historical contextualization, and literary interpretation.

Prüfungsstoff

Students will be expected to translate and discuss assigned text, to give short reports, and perform various assigned tasks. Each student will give one longer report covering a section of the text, and will write a final paper.
