Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course will give an introduction to basic questions of literary studies, such as text analysis, literary interpretation and literary theory. It will also acquaint students with literary terminology and its practical application and give a survey of the major literary genres and the special problems relating to them.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The course aims at helping students to become competent readers and critics by providing them with a critical toolkit which should enable them to understand and use basic concepts of literary criticism, and, by applying these procedures, to approach and evaluate literary texts autonomously.
