Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
In this class we will discuss several interesting short stories which present women from various different angles and in diverse contexts, ranging from the late 19th century to the present. The texts will also be selected with a view of the suitability of (some) of these short stories in the classroom.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Oral presentation; written copy of the presentation to be handed in; class participation; end test.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Students will become acquainted with some well-known English and American short stories and with various methods of interpreting and contextualising them.
Prüfungsstoff
Interactive; critical readings of literary texts; oral presentations with subsequent discussion in class. Literatur
reader will be provided. Texts discussed will include short stories by Margaret Atwood, Elizabeth Bowen, A.S. Byatt, Angela Carter, Doris Lessing, Ian McEwan, Charlotte Perkins-Gilman, et. al.
