Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The use of English as a medium of instruction in various school subjects (CLIL) is receiving considerable attention in Europe and elsewhere. One advantage of integrating language and content is thought to lie in the potential of such classrooms to provide an environment where students can develop their foreign language competence beyond what is possible in traditional language classrooms.
In this seminar we will consider the rationales and theoretical precepts of this form of instruction as well as study various aspects of how English is used in CLIL classrooms. This will be done by analysing an existing collection of English-medium lessons recorded at Austrian secondary schools.
Assessment is based on: seminar paper, oral presentation, class participation
