Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Content:
Building on the skills and knowledge acquired in PPOCS 1, this course focuses on oral presentation, interaction and mediation skills for future teachers of English. It discusses characteristic features of spoken language, including classroom discourse, and provides ample opportunity for practice. Students will continue to work on their pronunciation and learn to make effective use of intonation, voice, turn-taking devices and lexico-grammatical means to interact successfully in teaching contexts. Special emphasis will be placed on the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate understanding and communication between others, which includes processes like managing interaction, facilitating collaboration and encouraging conceptual talk.

Aims:

- to speak fluently and effectively in various forms of interaction and production

- to have expert knowledge of the characteristics of spoken language and classroom discourse

- to have practical analytical skills, e.g. for monitoring and analyzing the speech of learners

- to facilitate access to knowledge and concepts through spoken language

Methods:

Communicative language practice based on the discussion of theoretical concepts, presentations, role-plays.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Assessment is based on an in-class presentation, class participation, assignments, and a final oral exam, which involves a presentation and spoken interaction.

Course work (20%)
Final exam: presentation (40%)
Final exam: interaction (40%)

Prerequisites for taking the exam: in-class presentation, home assignments, written feedback assignment

1 (sehr gut) 100-90%;
2 (gut) 89-80%;
3 (befriedigend) 79-70%;
4 (genügend) 69-60%;
5 (nicht genügend) 59-0%.
