Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Aims: Students know fundamental concepts and strategies of academic work, with a special focus on literature and information research. They are familiar with the many information resources relating to English and American Studies and are able to make informed choices as to which to use when addressing academic problems. They know about the requirements of academic best practice. They are able to understand the relevance of information literacy for their future professional practices.

Contents: Concepts and strategies of academic work, with a special focus on literature and information research; information sources for English and American Studies; academic best practice; information literacy in academic and school environments

Methods: Monday’s course: onsite learning in C2 + Moodle (BYOD); Tuesday’s course: online synchronous learning in Zoom/Moodle. Both courses: teacher input, some inverted lecture sessions, individual and group activities in C2 and/or in Zoom/Moodle; research about a library, library tour and workshop on site.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Library component (research about a library, library tour and workshop on site); homework tasks in Moodle; individual and group activities for each session in C2 and/or in Moodle/Zoom (written and/or oral).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Attendance in class time (max. 1 absence): individual and group activities for each session (in C2 and/or in Zoom/Moodle) count as attendance.

1) Compulsory library component (research about a library, library tour & workshop on site, up to 25%).
2) Library homework relating to information resources/literature and information research (up to 25%).
3) Homework relating to academic work, academic best practice and information literacy (up to 50%).
The three named parts must be positive (over 60%) as well as the overall score.

Grading scale:
1 (sehr gut) 100-90%;
2 (gut) 89-80%;
3 (befriedigend) 79-70%;
4 (genügend) 69-60%;
5 (nicht genügend) 59-0%.

Continuous assessment based on what was covered in class (see Ziele, Inhalte und Methode/course schedule/Mindestanforderungen). Details on assignments are given in Moodle.
