This interactive course will offer an introduction to a range of theoretical perspectives and traditions emerging from the work of Mikhail Bakhtin, including
the carnivalesque, Menippean Satire, & the comic tradition of the burlesque
the grotesque body
the Feast of Fools, the Land of Cockayne
the chronotope
Julia Kristeva’s theory of abjection
the dialogic novel/the dialogic self
polyglossia & heteroglossia

Regular Attendance, Classroom Discussion 10%, Oral Presentation 20%, Written Assignement 20%, Term Paper 50%
