Students will apply some of the methods introduced in the course to real language data and will present the findings of their projects in class.

Prerequisites:
While this is not a requirement, we strongly suggest that you complete at least ILSS1, but ideally also ILSS2 before taking this course. Writing skills such as paragraphing (topic sentence, support,...) and having a clear line of argumentation are taken for granted and a basic understanding of the structure of an in-text citation will prove helpful.

Also, be aware of the fact that this is a 6-ECT course (total workload of about 150 hours), so be prepared to invest an average of 10 hours of work each week into this class (less in the beginning, more towards the end of the semester).

Students are familiar with:

- The basic principles and ethics of academic research

- Different qualitative and quantitative approaches to analysing data

- The basic conventions of academic writing
