Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this class, we will be dealing with examples of humorous writing in contemporary British literature and will discuss ways in which humour can be analysed in the genres narrative fiction, drama and poetry. Students become familiar with basic theories and the terminology necessary to discuss humour in literature. They are introduced to practical research for literary studies, including the use of a variety of sources and resources, and develop their academic writing as well as presentation skills.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

- general participation in class and at the mini conference
- group and/or individual presentations
- a mid-term paper of 700 words
- a formal paper of 3500 words

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

regular attendance, full attendance at the mini conference, contributions in class, presentations, mid-term paper and final paper; 60% of each needed for a positive grade. Details on moodle

- input phases combined with group work and classroom discussion
- individual and group presentations
- students' research projects (papers and presentations)
