Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This lecture will continue the investigations of the contemporary South African trauma novel begun in the WS 2009/10. The focus will be on trauma theory and narrative structure, on the various types of trauma and their reflections in the novel, and on selected topics related to the representation of trauma. Students who have not attended the previous lecture series are nevertheless welcome.

The students will be acquainted with modern trauma theory and related concepts and discover how these may be applied to the analysis of the contemporary South African novel. They will gain insight into the different ways in which the novelists "speak about the unspeakable," and the functions this has with regard to a traumatised country.
