Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this lecture class students will be given an insight into literature for young readers from the 19th to the 21st century. Starting with early examples of children’s literature via classics like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan or Little Women, we will cover some ground until we arrive at more recent examples of children's and young adult literature by writers such as Malorie Blackman or Lemony Snicket, which also lend themselves as material for the EFL classroom. To come to a broader understanding of children’s literature, we will apply critical theory and contextual analysis to these texts and will be looking at multimodal formats such as picturebooks, graphic novels and film adaptations.
This class will be available on u:stream (live stream and recording).

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

There will be a final written exam, based on the lectures and the required reading, consisting of a multiple choice part and short essay questions to choose from.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Both parts of the final written exam need to be positive, i.e. more than 60%.
Grading scale: 100 pts. max, 60 pts. min.
100-91 Sehr Gut
90-81 Gut
80-71 Befriedigend
70-60 Genügend
59-0 Nicht Genügend
