Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Apart from its local interest this course concerns itself with the various ways in which the historical Dr. Sigmund Freud of Vienna is represented and reflected in texts that easily qualify as biographical 'fictions' (i.e. stage-plays and feature films as bio-plays and bio-pics about Freud). Examples to be studied include:
- Henry Denker: "A Far Country" (aka "Berggasse 19") (1961)
- "Freud" (1962; dir. John Huston)
- Terry Johnson: "Hysteria: Or Fragments of an Analysis of an Obsessional Neurosis" (1993)
- Christopher Hampton: "The Talking Cure" (2002)
- "A Dangerous Method" (2011; dir. David Cronenberg).
