Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This AR will deal with a selection of British poetry from Shakespeare's time to the 20th century.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Class participation, oral presentation, essay (10 pages) or final written test.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The students become acquainted with form, content, and style of famous British poems and thus gain insight into the history of British poetry.
Prüfungsstoff
Oral presentations in class followed by discussions.
Literatur
A reader with selected poems will be available when the semester begins, amongst others: Shakespeare, "Sonnet no 18", Donne, "The Flea", Pope, "The Rape of the Lock", Swift, "A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed", Blake, "The Tyger", Wordsworth, "The Daffodils", Tennyson, "The Lady of Shalott", Arnold, "Dover Beach", Browning, "My Last Duchess", W.B. Yeats, "The Second Coming".
