The American family is possibly the central subject of American drama. The following course will focus on the contradictory nature of family and its fragile bonds uniting all family members in the chosen plays. The struggling characters embody the individual helplessness of family love, deteriorating marriage, failed parenthood, and the nightmare realities of American family life. All of these above cause bitter conflict and are not easily resolved. We will analyze these social relationships to shed some light on the roots of failure in American families.
