Content

How can we study film? What kind of media literacy do we need to 'read' movies critically? And what do we mean by saying that (moving) “images are never transparent windows onto the world” (Rose, Visual Methodologies 2)?
Proposing that the meaning of film is not exhausted by the subject matter and storyline, this film class sets out to equip students with the tools to analyze the complex filmic meaning-making with a focus on the technological conditions of production: film photography, mise en scène, movement, editing, sound.
