Content

How can we study film? What kind of media 'literacy' do we need to 'read' movies critically? And what do we mean by saying that (moving) “images are never transparent windows onto the world” (Rose, Visual Methodologies 2)?
Proposing that the meaning of film is not reducible to the storyline, this film class sets out to equip students with the tools to analyze the complex filmic meaning-making with a focus on production technologies: film photography, mise en scène, movement, editing, sound.
Furthermore, this course will provide hands-on opportunities for students' own film production.
