Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Violence has a history. From Goya to The Last of Us audiences have been fascinated by depictions of conflict. The corresponding worry about the level of violence, about the way it is represented, and ideas of imitation and moral dissolution has accompanied the topic. This course will examine the cultural scripts associated with violence in film, television and media, including gender roles and members of marginalised communities.

Students will examine films and series such as Saving Private Ryan, Hannibal, Fight Club, The Passion of the Christ, 300 and others. Students will learn technical film terminology as well as how to apply media analysis as a tool for their future studies. The course will boast an interactive, pragmatic approach that emphasises practical skills that can be used by the students in their academic and professional careers.
