Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The objectives of this course are to prepare students for the "Schulpraktikum" by focusing on the diverse roles and tasks of the EFL teacher, the basic concepts of CLT, lesson planning, classroom management and practical teaching techniques, as well as observation criteria.

Core contents:

- Teaching reading
- Teaching speaking
- Teaching writing
- Teaching grammar

Students will be expected to observe and teach at school.

Method: flipped teaching, on-site teaching and e-learning (if need be: synchronous and asynchronous e-learning via Zoom), group interaction, discussions, mini-presentations, lecturer input, observation, team teaching

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will have to create a course portfolio which consists of various assignments due at different times in the course. Portfolio assignments will comprise the following topics (weights in parentheses):

- Teaching activity (18%)

- Observation report (7%)

- Teaching the language skills/system (3 out of the following 4): reading, speaking, writing, grammar (16% each)

- Concluding reflection (10%)

- Home assignments, asynchronous e-learning activities (17%)

Language issues/not complying with formal aspects (-20%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Requirements ("zwingend vorgeschriebene Leistungen"):

1) Plan and teach a lesson at the school of your mentor (team-teaching)

2) Observe a lesson and write a report for your course portfolio

3) Submit a course portfolio

4) Participate actively in synchronous and asynchronous sessions

5) Attend synchronous online sessions regularly (max. 2 absences).

Sehr gut (90%-100%), Gut (80%-89.99%), Befriedigend (70%-79.99%), Genügend (60%-69.99%), Nicht genügend (0%-59.99%)

Prüfungsstoff

The assignments in the course portfolio will have students observe, analyze, evaluate, create and reflect on lessons and tasks pertaining to teaching reading, teaching speaking, teaching writing and teaching grammar.

4) Participate actively in class/ in online lessons and hand in the assignments as well as be active in the forum

5) Attend sessions regularly (max. 2 absences).

The objectives of this course are to prepare students for the "Schulpraktikum" by focusing on the diverse roles and tasks of the EFL teacher, the basic concepts of CLT, lesson planning, classroom management and practical teaching techniques, as well as observation criteria.Core content:- Teaching reading- Teaching speaking- Teaching writing- Teaching grammarStudents will be expected to observe and to do teaching at school.Method: group interaction, discussions, lecturer input, observation, team teaching

- teaching activity lesson plan 18%

- observation report 7 %

- teaching the language skills/system (3 out of the following 4): reading, speaking, writing, grammar 16% each

- concluding reflection 10%

- participation in class and in e-learning activities, HW assignments, online assignments, discussions 17%

- language issues/not complying with formal aspects -20%

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Requirements ("zwingend vorgeschriebene Leistungen"):

1) Plan and teach a lesson at the school of your mentor (team-teaching)- observe a lesson in this class beforehand

2) Observe a lesson taught by your peers and write a report for your course portfolio (peer-observation)

3) Submit a course portfolio (seperate instructions)

4) Participate actively in class/ in online lessons and hand in the assignments as well as be active in the forum

5) Attend sessions regularly (max. 2 absences).

Sehr gut (90%-100%), Gut (80%-89.99%), Befriedigend (70%-79.99%), Genügend (60%-69.99%), Nicht genügend (0%-59.99%)
