Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course addresses the pivotal factors that influence foreign language learning in adult life within a formal learner setting, and resulting educational implications. We will explore and discuss the relevance and impact of the following parameters: psychological traits, cognitive and metacognitive dimensions, individual characteristics, neuroscientific considerations, age and learning aptitude, learner strategies and techniques, socio-political requirements (globalization, lifelong learning). Another key aspect is the role of the language teacher/instructor in adult education (advisor, coordinator, manager), his/her self-concept, and the importance of rapport. On the basis of relevant underlying concepts and the identification of specific learner requirements we will discuss a range of methodological approaches (e.g. chances and constraints of learner autonomy) and develop appropriate teaching/learning methods, techniques and tools.
