Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

**The course is currently being adapted to the new home-learning requirements**

Digital education is currently a rather ill-defined educational aim that still needs practical experiments and adjustments as well as accompanying research. In this course, we will be taking a pro-active stance and analyse the potentials of literary genres for digital education within English language classrooms.

In Austrian secondary schools, literature has seen a backlash due to a strong focus on (more easily) testable aspects of language in standardised tests and exams. Out of the many potentials of literary genres, this course will focus on media education, though not exclusively.

Topics will thus be
• Definitions and contexts of media education
• Media education within ELT
• Methods of literary teaching and learning in ELT
• Short literary genres and their potential for literary learning and media education
• Digital forms of literary and creative language use

Supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning we will also explore possibilities to use advanced features of Moodle and programme our own digital learning tools to promote literary learning in our classrooms.

The course is designed to support you in developing a thorough understanding of media education in ELT, its practicalities and potentials – with a focus on literary learning.

We will have a mixture of readings and discussions, presentations, lesson planning, programming and for those who want, also some creative writing for ourselves.
