Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course focuses on the application and the practice of analytical skills. It will be divided into four units, focussing on (a) phonetics and phonology, (b) morphology, (c) syntax, and (d) semantics and pragmatics. Since participants are expected to be familiar with the necessary terminological toolkit, the course will provide the opportunity for practicing its application in concrete tasks and exercises to be done and discussed in class. - For preparatory reading see the literature section below.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Assessment will be primarily based on four unit tests (25 points max. each), which will administered at the end of each of the four content units mentioned above.
Grading scale:
0 – 59.9 points = 5; 60 – 69.9 points = 4; 70 – 79.9 = 3; 80 – 89.9 = 2; 90 – 100 = 1
Since the primary aim of the course is to consolidate participants' competence in structural linguistics analysis, classroom participation, albeit required, will have little or no impact on the final grade. Nevertheless, participants will not earn a pass grade if they miss more than two sessions (or 180 minutes) of the course.
