Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Subsequent to a brief discussion of what constitutes a good explanation, this course provides an introduction to the currently most important research methods in linguistics. Specifically, the course covers methods of data collection (such as recording, elicitation, questionnaires, interviews) and data analysis (such as working with language corpora, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, statistics).

The course grade is based on
* grades on topic assignments and in-class participation (40%)
* grades on two long final tasks (60%)The minimum requirements for passing this course are:
(a) regular class attendance (max. 2 absences)
(b) handing in topic assignments (on time)
(c) handing in final tasks and NIH certificate (on time)
(d) attaining a pass grade on more than half of all topic assignments and on at least one final task
