Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The aim of the course is to support students who are working on their MA theses. To do so, we will read and discuss your proposals, a selection from your choice of primary work(s), outlines, bibliographies, and critical or analytical writing samples. Each participant will submit materials and present work samples to the course members over the course of the seminar. We will address questions concerning individual projects, selection of sources, methodology, procedures for research, general MA guidelines and expectations, and academic writing style and formats.
It is recommended that you sign up for this class when you have found a supervisor and a topic for your thesis paper.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Individual presentation of research projects, written input (e.g. abstract, short proposal and longer text selection from thesis project), individual and group work within sessions

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Course evaluation is based on:
(A) class participation and preparation of course materials (20%)
(B) project presentation (50%)
(C) writing assignment (30%)
The minimum requirements for passing the course are:
(a) regular class attendance (max. 2 missed sessions)
(b) active class participation
(c) giving project presentation on time
(d) handing assignments on time
(e) attaining the pass rate of 60 points
Marks in %:1 (very good): 90-100%2 (good): 80-89%3 (satisfactory): 70-79%4 (pass): 60-69%5 (fail): 0-59%Points must be collected in all of these areas to pass. The benchmark for passing this course is at 60%.

- ACTIVE participation in group work and classroom discussion
- project presentation incl. handout and ppt
- on-time hand-in of written assignment
