130023 PS Literarische Wechselbeziehungen (PS): Songwriting (2012W)

In this course, we will try to shed light on the different forms of intertextuality, that are to be found in the vast field of songwriting. We will discuss the origin of folk songs in the oral tradition and how content was changed to fit the time and place of performance. We will also discuss 20th century music and contemporary songwriters and the abundance of cross-references, references to literary works and other forms of intertextuality to be found in this post-modern, shape-shifting beast that is rock music.
