Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

An introduction to the most important theories, perspectives and developments in literary studies combined with a methodological approach. The course focuses on following topics and questions: In which ways have literature been studied, what kind of perspectives have literary scholars used in order to analyse literary works, what kind of theories of literature has been put forward and how to use them? Lectures are combined with examples of how the theories can be put to work in analysis of literature, and literary analysis exercises.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

1. To give the students an overall view of the most important theoretical perspectives and developments within literary studies, 2. To give the students ideas of how theories can put into practice in analysis of literature, 3. To enhance the students methodological abilities and give them instruments for literary analysis.

Prüfungsstoff

Lectures, exercises in textanalysis and discussions.

Literatur

A list of the reading will be given on the first meeting.
