Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This is a short introductory course to North Saami language. The course introduces students to the Saami culture via language. It is possible that you do not learn how to order pizza in the restaurant, but instead you will learn how to manage in the traditional Saami environment.

The aim of the course is to learn basics of the North Saami language both to understand and produce, and learn some basic features of the culture, viewed via language.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The course is build on reading texts, both written and spoken exercises, and an exam at the end of the course.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The assesment of the course will be based on exam (50%) and exercises and activity on the class (50%). Attending lessons is obligatory. One can be absent at most 30% (8 lessons) of the course.

Literatur

The material used is Ante Aikio & Jussi Ylikoski: The Structure of North Saami, available inAcademia.edu. In addition the teacher will give copies of texts and exercises.
