Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
In this course we will read, in English translation, select works of one of the most influential writers in 18th-century Tibet, Jikmé Lingpa ('Jigs med gling pa, 1729-1798). The goal of the course is to understand Jikmé Lingpa as an intellectual of varied interests and expertise operating in a Buddhist context. We will focus on the major genres of his writing, including Buddhist philosophy and contemplative practice, history, ethnology, and poetry.
